Internet telephony or Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP

The Internet telephony, also known as Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP call, where the telephone call is made over computer networks. When two people talk using a conventional telephone line, for example a land line or mobile phones then transmission happens on the wire or using radio waves.

With VoIP voice moves from one computer to another using the internet.

In this technology the sound is digitized, then converted into small data packets that can be sent over Internet. These data packets are then sent over the Internet to another user. VoIP utilizes the Internet standards that apply to computer networks. Thus, the caller can not call using a traditional telephone number, but by using the IP address of the computer with which he is on the Internet. This IP address is also unique like a phone number.

VoIP benefited from the evolution of the Internet and the hardware in recent years. In the early days of the Internet, analog modem connections were still slow. This resulted in poor sound quality for VoIP, the constant crackling in the voice. And internet connections were also fewer.

Today with cable or DSL connections, the data rate is no longer the problem and you have the same sound quality as with a regular phone. In addition, almost every household has an Internet connection. Thus you can easily reach almost everyone on VoIP.

Internet telephony or Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP is being used more and more, because both users and service providers have increasing benefits. While in normal telephony you are limited just to talk, VoIP provides the ability to simultaneously send data of any kind. For example, you can send a friend a photo of the holiday or the last link of a website that you have just visited. For VoIP service is also attractive.

Normal telephone systems are rigid and therefore you cannot have lot of features. You may need a new phone system for some advanced features. For this you must also procure and install an expensive phone system. With VoIP, you have to just change or upgrade the program only. This is cheaper and time saving.
